On Friday March 3rd the students of the NAF Academy had the honor of meeting with Mr. Joe Green from OSSE. Each student introduced themselves and told Mr. Green what their future career plans were.
On Friday, December 2, 2022, RTEC NAF AOHT met with NAF’s DC Portfolio Manager, Jessica Williams. This was the Fall 2022 NAF Academy Support Session where we held a student and teacher panel discussion, reviewed academy data and goals. RTEC’s NAF Education Design Level: Measure of Fidelity of Implementation status is CERTIFIED!!! We are officially a NAF Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, the only one nationwide that exclusively supports students with intellectual disabilities!
NAF Academy opened the school year collecting data to better understand who our scholars are as individual learners, where our scholars are academically in the key areas of math, reading, writing, and what career interests scholars would like to pursue during their time in NAF Academy.
As of last week, scholars have completed the school required ULS (Unique Learning Systems) Benchmark data. Scholars are working progressively and productively to complete 14 sections of the Brigance Transition Assessment. In addition to these academic based assessments, NAF scholars have completed two career interest surveys that have identified both their personalized career ability strengths and interests. These career interest surveys will be used to direct each scholars learning path during their NAF career.

First Author Curriculum 📚📖
NAF Academy is hard at work implementing the exciting new schoolwide writing curriculum, First Author. First Author is a writing program that places our scholars in the “Author Seat”. The weekly lessons teach students the techniques, tools, and methods needed to become great creative authors.
To kick-off the program, NAF Scholars created tie-dye t-shirts that they will wear when they are presenting their creative writing experiences to visitors and their classmates in the front of the class.
NAF Scholars will use their creative writing talent and enter the contest, Embracing our Differences. This national contest has a national prize of $2,000.00 for the winning writer. Our students’ inspiring words and thoughts stand an excellent chance at winning a top prize!
